About Me/Contact

The Day of the Triffids is one of my favourite books. Having completed a website on another of my favourites, Wuthering Heights, I thought about creating another 'reader's guide' and decided on this one.

It is one of the best known science fictions novels, and most people have a rough idea of what a triffid is even if they have never read the book or seen a screen adaptation. Indeed, it even exists in the dictionary:

Definition:

trif-fid 'trifid (also Trif-fid)
noun
(in science fiction) one of a race of predatory plants that are capable of growing to a gigantic size and are possessed of locomotor ability and a poisonous sting.

ORIGIN coined by John Wyndham in The Day of the Triffids (1951)

The triffids, actually, are only part of the story - much of it concerns how people would survive (or not) a major disaster. It looks at possible communities and how different people would react.

If you are just beginning the wonderful tale of Bill and Jo, hopefully this site will help you along but be warned, because the site goes into detail, you will find many spoilers.

If you wish to contact me, you can use  the Feedback Form. If I can help you on aspects of the book, I will (but don't expect me to write an essay for you). If you enjoyed the site and just want to say "thanks", that's fine – it's always good to know that my work has been worth it.
